Thefts from Cars
Happily we can report that this hasn’t been a major issue this summer, we have concentrated our efforts on putting up posters at local beauty spots reminding car owners when leaving their cars at isolated places
Don’t leave valuables such as hand-bags/laptops on showLock valuables in the bootTry and park near to another vehicleThefts of Cars
On a slightly different angle to the problem of vehicle crime I would like to bring your attention to a national trend.
The theft of high-value vehicles, BMWs, Mercedes, 4x4s from the driveways of private residences.
With the great improvement of vehicle security alarms,immobilisers etc, thieves are routinely stealing high value vehicles by removing keys from owners homes and simply driving away. No need to damage the vehicle and no risk of any car alarms going off! The reason that it is so easy is that we all tend to keep car keys in very obvious places, close by the front door/hanging on a hook in full view of a window, in a bowl in the hallway etc. There have been a number of cases where the thief has hooked the keys with a piece of wire through the letter-box.
Once in possession of the keys, the car(s) have been driven away in the middle of the night.
Lesson for us all
Start putting your keys away in a drawer or cupboard, somewhere that is not so obvious. Let’s not make it easy for the thief.

Very much in the local and national news in recent weeks is the targeting of elderly and vulnerable residents in their own homes.
A few reminders for ALL of us;
If there is a stranger at your door – stop – think and remember and always:
Keep your door shut and locked and use a spy-hole or window to check who is outsideDo NOT open the door if you don’t recognise or are not expecting a callerAvoid keeping large amounts of cash at homeIt would be a good opportunity for all of us to check on elderly neighbours to provide reassurance and keep a friendly eye out for uninvited callers to their doors.
If someone knocks at your door
STOP, THINK, REMEMBER
SOS
STAY OUT STRANGER
